It is generally recognized that all previously published editions of Hume's "Dialogues" contain some errors and inaccuracies. The current edition was put together from the original handwritten manuscript housed in the National Library, Edinburgh. Every effort has been made to provide an edition which is faithful to Hume's handwritten text, instructions, marginal notes, and changes. Although previous editions of Hume's "Dialogues" contain introductory essays prepared by the editors of these editions, this work has the advantage of offering an introduction which gives a comprehensive interpretation of the "Dialogues" as a whole, and an in-depth analysis of each of the twelve parts of the "Dialogues". The current edition also includes four previously published papers which deal with Hume's views on evil.
