Chamberlain's (1855-1927) Grundlagen des neunzelhnten Jahrunderts was first published in 1899, and became the bible of Nazi ideas and prejudices through 28 editions until 1942. Using the philosophy of Kant, he reconciles such forces as religion, philosophy, and science in such a way that the German comes out the savior and leading power of the world. The English translation by John Lees was published in 1910 by Bodley Head in London, and reprinted in 1968 by Fertig in New York with an new introduction by George L. Mosse, which is included in this facsimile edition. The two volumes are paged separately and indexed together; references are footnoted. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Product Description: This edition of Houston Stewart Chamberlain's Politische Ideale (1915) reveals the historical significance of Chamberlain in German conservative political philosophy. Contrasting the vital nationalistic state with the sterile commercialism of liberal democracies, moral freedom with the unruly selfishness of democratic parties, and the decaying culture of the Anglo-Saxon peoples with the relatively pure Teutonic, Chamberlain evokes in this work, with the deftest of strokes, the principal elements of a genuinely conservative state...read more
