An adherent of the gothic fantasy, the author recounts the lives of artists who consecrated their existence to a distinguished pictorial creation with the common counterpart of suffering a life of misfortunes, as if the price for their genius were a tortuous and unsatisfying life. The contours of their lives and works blend together in these biographical tales, exposing the inherent tension of artistic creation which garners great admiration, but doesn’t always lead the admirer to give any thought at all to the genius from which it originated.
