Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: This previously unpublished autobiography follows J.F.X. O'Brien from his youth as the son of a merchant to treasurer of the Irish Parliamentary Party. O'Brien's experiences were varied and far-flung: he studied at seminary in Ireland, studied medicine in Paris, befriended painter James Whistler, served as a mercenary in Nicaragua, and fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. He returned to Ireland and was imprisoned for his role in the Fenian uprising of 1867 before being pardoned and eventually serving in the Irish Parliament. ""Welcome and now easily available primary source material which will enhance and inform future studies of Irish nationalism.""-Irish Literary Supplement
