Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: Peacemakers: A Violence Prevention Program is an award-winning, research-based intervention that combines best practices from psychology and values education into experiences that help prevent youth violence and improve interpersonal behavior. The program, which includes a Leader s Guide and Student Workbook, is written for students in grades 4-8, and can be implemented in school, as well as in youth groups, after-school programs, residential-treatment programs, or for other groups of children led by caring adults. Peacemakers is a program that teaches children how to prevent violence by helping them to understand the psychology of violence. The program provides proven instruction in anger management, coping with stress, perspective-switching, problem solving, empathy for others, assertive behavior, communication skills, conflict resolution, dealing with bullying, resisting negative peer pressure, and using positive peer pressure. Students learn these skills within the real-world context of their lives, which increases the program s effectiveness. The Leader s Guide is made up of 3 parts. Part 1, an introduction to the program, includes discussions of the risk factors of youth violence, the Peacemakers philosophy and approach, the research basis of the program, the structures and content of the program, and ideas for presenting the lessons. Part 2 is made up of 18 step-by-step lessons that move from internal factors, such as self-concept and emotions, to group processes, such as countering bullying and encouraging positive peer pressure. Each lesson includes an overview, scripted lesson plan, and handouts.
