The author gave us an insight into the struggles and humiliation she experienced and I could not help but think how many Jade Conquers are in the world, given the increasing selfish tendencies of others. Critics may say, “This is just another story about the struggles of a woman, so what else is new?” What is new is the fact that each person’s story is not exactly the same and it may not quite impact until one can truly say, “I know how she feels” and really mean it. Jade touched my heart and no doubt will inspire others to continue to beat the odds. She kept telling her aggressors that she is a grown woman, when these antagonists inflict hurt to feel “big” when they in fact suffer from self-esteem issues; this is much prevalent today. In addition, the author revealed his sensitive side as he delved into the women’s issues by not taking sides and venerating those men who tend to think that the female is property, there for the bidding. Very rare does a male focus on female issues so ably, while at the same time highlighting both the repulsive as well as the ideal male. The novel also brought out female envy, male rivalry and domination, as well as sibling rivalry. Other issues highlighted are the fact that a woman may sacrifice the relationship between her and a child for that of a man, as well as the fact that a woman may walk away from a proposition by a man in search of something better. So many concerns are highlighted that this novel can be deemed current literature. Kudos to the author, keep writing.”
