Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: The Long Way Home is Lee Rouner's story of a journey which was to have taken him from Colombo, Sri Lanka home to his family in Boston. Enroute, however, he learned that his second son, Timothy, had been killed in Alaska while mountain climbing with his brother Rains. The new journey takes him through Europe and across America to Alaska, to join his wife Rita, and Rains; to visit the mountain where Timmy dies; and to bring his ashes home for burial in the family cemetery in New Hampshire. This is an inward journey through grief, guilt, helplessness, and question of God's power in the face of evil. It is also a four-generation story of a family - his feisty Grandma Rouner who shot her philandering husband; his father, Arthur Rouner, who, inspired by Horatio Alger stories, left poverty in Omaha for success at Harvard and in the Congregational ministry; his wife, Rita, who has a special bond with Tim; his eldest son, the intense Rains, who was Timmy's best friend, and felt responsible for his death; his you younger children, Jonathan and Christina; and Tim himself, the "curly headed, incandescent boy" who loved climbing, wrote poetry, and died much too young.
