From very early in life, John Baptist de la Salle wanted to be a priest. A few years after he was ordained, Father John was asked to start a school and become a teacher. Although people criticized the idea of free schools, Father John built more, taught teachers to teach and to respect all students, and founded the Christian Brothers.
