Econometric Analysis of Panel Data Badi H. Baltagi This new text provides students with a comprehensive assessment of the latest panel data techniques, especially for serial correlation, heteroscedasticity, simultaneous equations, dynamic models and incomplete panels. The book includes extensive coverage of estimation, testing and prediction methods using panel data. Baltagi uses two data sets to illustrate the techniques used and cites several empirical studies using panel techniques, so that the reader can relate the econometric methods with the economic applications. Packed with exercises which can be assigned for classroom use, the author proceeds from single equation methods to simultaneous equation methods, making this text entirely accessible to students.

This book reviews the basic econometric methods that have been used to analyze panel data - in other words, data collected by observing a number of individuals over time. In analyzing panel, data, difficulties can arise due to unobserved individuals and/or time characteristics. The focus of this book is twofold: correcting for these difficulties, and providing methods for improvement of the efficiency of the estimates. Analysis of Panel Data draws together work on panel data from a number of different perspectives, including the econometric literature on specification analysis, the time series literature on dynamic models, and discrete choice literature. Empirical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical discussion as well as to indicate areas of research where panel data might be useful.

In this user-friendly introduction, European and American experts in the field join forces to explain what panel studies can achieve and to illustrate some of the potential pitfalls in the construction and analysis of panel data. Household panel studies provide one of the most significant national and international resources for analysing social and economic change. This is an essential and accessible introduction for those contemplating the use of panel studies for the first time and will be an invaluable resource for both practising researchers and the commissioners of research.
