Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, and literary critic. Poe is considered to be the inventor of detective fiction and he was one of the earliest and greatest practitioners of the short story. Poe also wrote The Raven, which is one of the most famous poems ever written. The Gold-Bug is a short story that centers around William Legrand who is bitten by a gold-colored bug. Legrand's servant then fears that his master is going insane. The story is one of the earliest examples of detective fiction.
