Salmon aquaculture is growing at an enormous rate in countries such as Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Japan, Canada and Chile, with the development spreading to other areas including Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Yet little systematic data and economic analyses are available with respect to the impact this development has on world salmon markets and the economic viability of the industry.
