Negotiations on an international commodity policy have been the central issue on the North-South agenda for the past three years. They also can be seen as the first major effort to give substantive meaning to the Third World's desire not only for a new regime for the world's raw commodity trade but also for a New International Economic Order. Yet various obstacles have impeded successful North-South bargaining, and the negotiations remain at a stalemate. Focusing on the bargaining process between developed and developing countries in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Robert Rothstein analyzes the factors that have inhibited successful negotiation and suggests ways in which these obstacles might be removed. The first part of the book focuses on the specifics of the commodity debate, while in the second part the author attempts to explain the causes of delay, misunderstanding, and mistrust within the negotiating process. Assessing the possibility of devising an effective bargaining policy among unequal parties with conflicting values and interests, Professor Rothstein suggests a number of structural, institutional, and conceptual reforms.Originally published in 1979.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. METEOROLOGY TODAY, SIXTH EDITION shows students the dynamic nature of the atmosphere with current, relevant information. By conveying meteorological concepts in a visually stimulating and practical manner, while simultaneously providing a comprehensive background in basic meteorology, this book aids students in their understanding and appreciation of our Earth's dynamic atmosphere. This provides a perfect blend of theory and application in meteorology. The book features a traditional yet modular organization, moving from atmospheric elements to air movement to severe weather, and finally to climate and global change. This logical order of topics gives the instructor flexibility to cover the chapters in any order. In METEOROLOGY TODAY, SIXTH EDITION, students learn how to actively observe with topics directly related to everyday weather experiences. The text stresses the understanding and application of meteorological principles in a clear and accessible writing style. Ahrens teaches readers to watch the weather so that it becomes "alive," allowing them to immediately apply textbook material to the world around them. This text contains extensive new features that significantly address the market needs of accuracy, currency, and earlier presentation of mapping and forecasting, with a greatly enhanced technology package. BLUE SKIES™ COLLEGE EDITION, the most innovative, comprehensive CD and web site in meteorology, is included with every new copy of the text. It features interactive images, simulations, animations, assessment, and live Internet data and image feeds.

"Atmosphere, Weather and Climate" provides a thorough introduction to weather processes and climatic conditions. Since the last edition, the recognition of the reality and possible effects of human activities on the environment has revolutionized attitudes to the study of atmosphere and of world climate. Beginning with an extended treatment of atmospheric composition and energy, stressing the heat budget of the earth and the causes of the greenhouse effect, the authors turn to manifestations and circulation of atmospheric moisture, including atmospheric stability and precipitation patterns in space and time. A consideration of atmospheric motion on small to large scales and modelling of general circulation leads to a decision of the structure of air masses, frontal cyclones and weather forecasting on different time scales. The treatment of weather and climate in temperate latitudes begins with studies of Europe and America, extending to the conditions of their polar and sub-tropical margins. Tropical weather and climate are also described through an analysis of the climatic mechanisms of monsoon Asia, Africa and Amazonia, together with the tropical margins of Africa and Australia.
