Removed from the country clubs and speakeasies, Cherry is bored with ranch life, and to entertain herself she flirts with the cowboys. Then there is Stephen Heftral, a young archeologist searching for an ancient lost kiva of a primitive Indian tribe that disappeared centuries before. Heftral believes the kiva is in a desert fastness called Beckyshibeta. Elijah colludes with Heftral to awaken Cherry to a new, healthier way of life by taking her to the site, and amid the danger and beauty of the canyons she forgets the luxury of her past--and makes an important archeological discovery.

H. BINDING and J. REINERT In collaboration with the first authors of this volume This volume is devoted to the development of cell clones and plants from ma nipulated cells: isolated protoplasts, cell fusion bodies, and transformed cells. Isolated protoplasts represent cells which are liberated from their walls and separated from the differentiation pattern of the organism. Investigations on re generation from protoplasts provide a better understanding of the process and control of developmental pathways. Whereas protoplast isolation results in alteration of the state of differentiation of a cell, protoplast fusion is a means for the creation of cells with novel genetic constitution. Fascinating features are (1) to hybridize cells which-unlike gametes -did not derive from meiosis products, (2) to bring together foreign plastids and mitochondria and to investigate their parasexual reactions, and (3) to match ge netic traits which had been separated for long periods of evolution. Highly sophisticated techniques have already been elaborated for the transfer of genes by the use of isolated DNA and gene transfer systems. Highly promising results have already been obtained by the use of Ti plasmids of Agrobacterium, but direct DNA transformation is also proving to be useful. Most of the results in these areas are preliminary and/or limited to a few sys tem.lt is the aim of this volume to present the main features, but at the same time to draw attention to problems and perspectives of protoplast regeneration and so matic cell genetics in order to stimulate further investigations.

I'm getting married. He's perfect. It's a disaster. Note to self: Do not tell psycho-bitch US Attorney future-mother-in-law that you got into Harvard Law School by shagging the Dean of Admissions. Do not sing Beyonce-style while representing in major court deposition (actually, that one kinda works). Do not buy into the social construct of fidelity - even if other people freak the hell out about it. But hey, for an easy life, do not let Will find out about all the other men (esp. my boss/his boss/his best friend). And do not let him find out about the Other Thing. Oh Jesus, don't let him find out about the Other Thing.

Artemis Awakening is the start of a new series by New York Times bestseller Jane Lindskold. The distant world Artemis is a pleasure planet created out of bare rock by a technologically advanced human empire that provided its richest citizens with a veritable Eden to play in. All tech was concealed and the animals (and the humans brought to live there) were bioengineered to help the guests enjoy their stay…but there was always the possibility of danger so that visitors could brag that they had "bested" the environment. The Empire was shattered in a horrific war; centuries later humanity has lost much of the advanced technology and Artemis is a fable told to children. Until young archeologist Griffin Dane finds intriguing hints that send him on a quest to find the lost world. Stranded on Artemis after crashing his ship, he encounters the Huntress Adara and her psych-linked companion, the puma Sand Shadow. Their journey with her will lead Dane to discover the planet's secrets…and perhaps provide a key to give unimagined power back to mankind.
