This book is divided into three parts on "real rock" sedimentology: Rock to Sediment, Sediment Sedimented, and Sediment to Rock, reflecting the closed nature of the sedimentary cycle. Each part is introduced with an appropriate quotation from Sir Charles Lyell's seminal Elements of Geology, which first appeared in 1838.
