Como principal objecion a la naturaleza dramatica de La Celestina se aduce su longitud; este reparto se agrava con el de las dificultades que implica el ponerla en escena debido a la profusion de cambios de escenario. Un estrecho criterio neoclasico se ampara tras la objecion primeramente mencionada; un pobre realismo falto de imaginacion se oculta tras de la segunda. Autoria, fuentes, generos, critica, etc., desaparecen de la escena ante la elegancia de un gesto: el del autor, quienquiera que este haya sido, que ocultandose tras la maestria de su creacion, cede las tablas, galante y teatral, a sus propios personajes. El mundo de los criados en La Celestina es riquisimo en trazos psicologicos. Cada uno de ellos esta visto en su individualidad; cada uno de ellos se mueve por sus propios resortes e intereses; nunca son calcas o reflejos de la personalidad de sus amos. De los criados, Sempronio es el que despliega mayor numero de facetas: puede, en el Acto primero, echarle a su amo una larga perorata plena de erudicion atacando a las mujeres, para precaverlo del peligro que representan; en el Acto noveno se dirige a Elicia con toda la galanura de un cortesano.
