The burial remains of what appears to have been a Mayan women of great social rank, whose face was covered by an enigmatic red mask, were discovered in June 1994 near the Gran Pakalpyramid in Palenque?a mystery which still raises debate amongst scholars and which the author attempts to solve by using myths and known facts.
