Product Description: The concepts of psychological literacy and the psychologically literate citizen promise to invigorate a new global approach to psychology education. The social domain of women and work is a dynamic field of study-filled with promise and problems that deserve careful scrutiny and understanding. Reflecting the ever-changing nature of the field, half of the readings are new to the Second Edition. For example, Unit Two presents a more extensive examination of the work context as an influence on women's work experiences and opportunities. Unit Three assesses the impact of women's active and continuous presence in the workforce by probing changes in the definition of a "good manager," by incorporating emotional labor as part of work demands, and by challenging the myth of gender differences in work values. Unit Four explores the various challenges in the work/family interface, including the "second shift" and the "time bind." In Unit Five we explore how women fare in a variety of occupations, documenting the special challenges they face and the strategies they use in their attempt to surmount these obstacles. "Food for Thought and Action" questions at the end of each reading are included to encourage the synthesis of information and to explore possible solutions to some of women's most vexing problems in today's workplace.
