Holiday Cheer from the Antebellum South! Columbia, South Carolina. December 24, 1862. It is the week of the "Christmas Raid of Kentucky" and the height of the war among the states. The chill in the air carries hickory-scented plumes of smoke upward from colonial chimneys. Within Antebellum homes, Confederate soldiers cuddle-up with southern belles beneath mistletoe and share mint jelly, ambrosia, and chestnuts from the hearth. Ebenezer Scrooge, wealthy plantation owner, will have none of it. That is, until the miserly curmudgeon is haunted by the ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future and forced to review his wasted life of misanthropy. Never straying in message from Charles Dickens' novella, Chris Cook has set the Christmas classic in the American Civil War, a time of strife and struggle not unlike the pain and poverty that belied 1830's Dickensian London. Also included is a delightful companion piece to the play. CONFEDERATE BILL, Memoir of a Civil War Veteran is the real-life autobiography by Cook's great, great grandfather, William E. Trahern. Published for the first time ever, it is an important piece of history, documenting the adventures and vagaries of a young rebel soldier. Both stories are southern-fried treats! "Yule " love em!

Glut your soul upon his accursed hideousness! Prepare for a phantasmagoric evening at the theatre! Master of horror, Chris Cook has penned a non-muscial version of Gaston Leroucx's Phantom of The Opera. This rendition is a faithful re-telling of the story of horribly deformed Erik and his abduction of reluctant soprano, Christine Daae. At plays' opening, a suspenseful ride of terror begins. . . The Paris Opera House has long been reported as a portal for hauntings, disturbances, and sightings of mysterious shapes and shadows. Disembodied voices emanate from the rafters and echo throughout the halls and cavernous sewers. Aftern an innocent man is killed, the two managers of the company are issued threats of continued murders. A self-described 'Opera Ghost' reveals his true identity and toturous mayhem ensues in a shocking climax. Lyricism abounds in this frightening portrait of unrequired love and adoration-turned-obsession. Bereft of commercial show-tunes and glitzy folderol, there is nothing Broadway about this Phantom. It is pure, unadulterated horror! "Chris, thanks for the book. This is great. Stay scared!" -George Romero, Director Night of the Living Dead

The Philokalia was published in Venice in 1782. It is an anthology of patristic writings from the Eastern Church, spanning the 4th to the 15th Centuries, which has been the subsequent focus of a significant revival in Orthodox spirituality. It presents an understanding of psychopathology and mental life which is significantly different to that usually encountered in western Christianity. It also presents accounts of both mental wellbeing and the pathologies of the mind or soul which are radically different to contemporary secular accounts and yet which also find remarkable points of similarity with contemporary psychotherapeutic approaches, such as cognitive therapy. The book provides an introduction to the history of the Philokalia and the philosophical, anthropological and theological influences that contributed to its information. It presents a critical account of the pathologies of the soul, the remedies for these pathologies, and the therapeutic goals as portrayed by the authors of the Philokalia. It then offers a critical engagement of this material with a contemporary understanding of psychotherapy. Finally, it raises important questions about the relationship between thoughts and prayer.

'One of the most relentlessly brilliant studies of twentieth-century Britain ... these young historians have found a marvellous theme and stuck to it. Theirs is the glory!'  Professor Arthur Marwick, HistoryThe 1930s - remembered as the decade of dole queues and hunger marches, mass unemployment, the means test, and the rise of fascism - also saw the development of new industries, the growth of comfortable suburbia, and rising standards of living for many. In Britain in the Depression, the authors look behind the legends for an objective - and timely - reassessment, as Britain again struggles with the economic and spiritual ills of recession and unemployment.
