The theme of this unique work, the logarithmic integral, lies athwart much of twentieth century analysis. It is a thread connecting many apparently separate parts of the subject, and is a natural point at which to begin a serious study of real and complex analysis. Professor Koosis' aim is to show how, from simple ideas, one can build up an investigation that explains and clarifies many different, seemingly unrelated problems; to show, in effect, how mathematics grows. The presentation is straightforward, so this, the first of two volumes, is self-contained, but more importantly, by following the theme, Professor Koosis has produced a work that can be read as a whole. He has brought together here many results, some new and unpublished, making this a key reference for graduate students and researchers.

Argues that while the ideology of nonviolent political action promises that the harsh realities of state power can be transcended through good feelings and purity of purpose, it is in fact a counter-revolutionary movement that defends and reinforces the same status-quo it claims to oppose. Churchill debunks the claims of historical pacifist victories, and proposes ways to diminish much of the delusion, aroma of racism, and sense of privilege which mark the covert self-defeatism of mainstream dissident politics. An important intervention, intended to generate badly-needed debate about the issue in the progressive community.

This seminal collection of essays provides a devastating portrait of the condition of Native America. From chronicling the genocide committed by European invaders, to exposing the insidious means by which contemporary politicians and academics perpetuate the physical and cultural destruction of American Indians, Churchill’s incisive analysis and carefully documented critique comprise a demand for action. These 18 essays serve as an excellent overview of the breadth and depth of Churchill’s scholarship. Ward Churchill (Keetoowah Cherokee) is a professor of American Indian studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. A member of the leader-ship council of the American Indian Movement of Colorado, he is a past national spokesperson for the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. A prolific writer and lecturer, he has authored, co-authored, or edited more than 20 books.
