Each volume in the History of England series presents an integration of the dominant themes of the period with which it deals, including political, constitutional, economic, social, military, foreign and cultural. Important new discoveries on the subject of the feudal system of England 1042-1216 have come to light since the last edition of this book appeared in 1972, and these have been included in the present edition.
