Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: Are the US Army's race relations policies based on principles of fairness or are they themselves inherently biased or even illegal? Over the last few decades, the United States Army has played a key role in bringing about valuable social changes in our country. But Exposing the Army's Equal Opportunity Program's Double Standard argues that the Army's programs governing racial matters have not always been for the better. Definitions of critical terms such as "racism" and "discrimination" lack any analytic rigor, and indeed are often contrived concepts designed not to judge fairly but simply to justify an end. Historical accounts of racism and the achievements of minorities, as described in official Army publications, are at the least skewed, if not patently false. After considerable groundwork, the author finds that the Army's affirmative action program is an illegal form of discrimination. The book closes with the author's suggestions for remedying the Army's race-related programs, which will make both the Army and the American life in general more even-handed on the difficult matter of race. The controversial material is not presented in a partisan or polemical manner. Rather it is done so in a cautious and straightforward manner designed less to inflame the passions than to inform the intellect.
