What makes the story really enjoyable is for the reader to change his voice and give each of the characters a specific personality, especially the voice of the narrator who carries the story forward from beginning to end.
Sharing this book with a child is a great opportunity to explain unfamiliar words and to point out the values and character traits that are perceived from each of the characters in the story. Finally, consider the prologue that follows as an explanation for the origins of the story. It's complete fantasy and not an attempt to re-write or revise history -- maybe just an alternative to the Jurassic Park type of dinosaur that created those sleepless nights.
