As part of a worldwide effort to make human resources a recognized profession, this report explores the professional background of practitioners and delves into why they choose human resources as a career. How professionals in this field develop and maintain their competencies is discussed, along with the differences and similarities between human resources in the United States and 23 other countries. As the profession grows, the research in this study will provide the framework for the human resource workforce to achieve much-needed recognition and respect.
