Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: Upton Sinclair was a very influential American author in the 20th century. Sinclair won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943 and he is still among the most widely read authors today. Sinclair was a prolific writer and his books often served as harsh criticisms towards American's economic conditions and its society as a whole. The Jungle is considered by many to be Sinclair's finest work. The novel centers around Jurgis Rudkus, a Lithuanian immigrant trying to earn a living in Chicago. When Jurgis takes a job at the local slaughterhouse he finds the working conditions to be extremely rough. The Jungle was very influential as it helped lead to the Meat Inspection Act.
