Para él, la virtud será la disposición del alma, es decir, la capacidad y la aptitud de esta para comportarse de un modo determinado: "No basta que la acción tenga un caracter determinado para que la conducta sea justa o buena; es preciso también que el hombre actue de un modo determinado ante todo, que atue a sabiendas; en segundo lugar, que proceda en razón de una decisión conciente y que prefiera esa acción por si misma; finalm ente, que actue desde una posición firme e inquebrantable" Aristóteles, Etica a Nicómaco La virtud entonces, se adquiere a través del ejercicio y el hábito, es decir que para que un hombre se haga justo, es menester que practique la justicia. Aristóteles considera que nadie se hace justo por "naturaleza" (aunque una predisposición natural sea importante) ni tampoco resulta suficiente la enseñanza.
