This 2002 edition of the teaching manual has been revised to reflect the changes made to the 2002 edition of the student textbook. The Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has found the student textbook Living Justice and Peace, copyright 2002, to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

"What is justice? How can I respond to the call of justice in my daily life?" Living Justice and Peace is a one-semester course for eleventh and twelfth graders that gives students practical ways to respond to the call to justice in their daily lives.

The Living Justice and Peace course fosters students' sense of compassion for those who suffer from injustice and enables students to examine society critically, using the values of the Scriptures and Catholic teaching. Specific topics are addressed, including abortion, capital punishment, racism, poverty, the environment, violence, and peace. The teaching manual fully supports the student text and includes prayers, prayer services, review questions and answers, student activities, discussion questions, role-play situations, suggestions for interviews and guest speakers, student handouts, and much more.

In this teaching manual, you will find classroom activities that actively engage students in the learning process through the use of multiple-intelligence theory, in the context of the circle of faith-in-action. In each chapter and issue, students are invited to become aware of their own image of justice and the present injustices of a situation, to analyze the issues in light of Catholic social teaching and the Scriptures, and to choose action steps to use their own talents and gifts to make a difference.
