Summaries and Reviews
Amazon.com description: Product Description: Structuralism is a way of thinking based on the view that the world consists of relationships, or structures, which we create, rather than - as we have long been taught - have objective reality. The insights which this revolutionary idea can give us have so far been principally applied to linguistics and anthropology, but the structuralist approach also has implications for other fields of knowledge. At the same time structuralism has run into strong criticism from different quarters. In this important contribution to the debate, Jean-Marie Benoist provides a lucid exposition of the progress which structuralism has so far made and of the main problems which it has encountered. In particular he brings out the full philosophical implications and reveals the metaphysical obstacles with which some philosophers and structuralists have become ensnared. Jean-Marie Benoist has been a senior lecturer at the College de France in Paris since 1974. Closely associated with the "New Philosophers" and their reaction against Marxism, he has written a number of books which include 'Marx est mort,' 'Pavanne pour une Europe defunte' and 'Les nouveaux primaires.'
